Special Monitoring

The Southwest Ohio Air Quality Agency oversees the Air Quality Monitoring Network. The monitoring station locations are selected with U.S. EPA and Ohio EPA guidance and, in general, are established near areas of high pollution, pollutant sources, or maximum expected concentrations.

Continuous monitors for ozone, carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen oxides produce hourly readings that are accessed by the Agency's central computer. Intermittent instruments collect particulate samples on a daily, every third day or every sixth day cycle. Particulate samples are then brought to the Agency's laboratory for analysis. Seven continuous PM2.5 monitors and one continuous PM10 particulate monitor are also available.

There are 42 continuous and intermittent monitors placed throughout Butler, Clermont, Clinton, Hamilton and Warren counties.
